Why are we Here – Our lives are not our Own

Let’s us go to the Bible and see what God’s word says:

Revelations 4:11: “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure, they are and were created.”

– Do we indeed give Him pleasure?
– Do we seek His face to see what gives Him pleasure?
– Or do we seek our own pleasure from Him?

Deuteronomy 10:12: “And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”

– Do we indeed give Him our all?
– Or do we still hold on to our idols?
– None of us have given our all but we should seek to do so.

Romans 12:1: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service.”

– Are we willing to sacrifice?
– Are we willing to give up the comforts of life?

I John 2:3: “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.”

– Are willing to obey?

Psalm 99:5: “Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His footstool – He is holy.”

John 4:23: “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him.”

We see from these verses that He wants obedience and worship. Let me share with you a poem that the Lord inspired me to write:

Is life materialism and health?
Or is it success and fame?
Or comfort, security and money?

What’s the meaning of life?
A few bask in immoderate luxury
Others just struggle to exist…

Surrendering to God is key
Discovering and apprehending the Lord’s way
Brings satisfaction, joy and peace

But existing with divine disappointments
Ever trusting and believing beyond hope
Is only meaningful to God

Life is worshipping the Lord
Giving Him all of our lifetime
For it’s all about Him

In a moment of time
Life will be turned upside down
Will we be truly ready?

How can we worship and obey Him if we neglect what is closest to the Lord’s heart? What is closest to the Lord’s heart? What is His passion? Or, put another way, what does the Lord want least to happen? I think we can find the answer in II Peter 3:9:

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

The Lord made a way for us by dying on the cross for our sins. He came to give us eternal life. The Lord is DESPERATELY trying to reach out. The Lord can only accomplish this through us. We are His hands and His feet. We MUST reach out to a lost humanity. He has commanded us to preach the gospel, Matthew 28:18-20:

‘And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”

But first, we must be convinced of the reality of Hell and for whom it is prepared. There are many false doctrines about Hell, even among Christians:

– God is love, He will never send anyone to Hell.
– Hell doesn’t exist.
– Hell is only to purify the lost for a time.
– Lost souls don’t go to Hell, they will just cease to exist.

Hell was made for Satan and his fallen angels; it was never meant for man, but those who will end up there will be because of their own free will. Men will have chosen to follow his own evil ways, his own righteousness and therefore rejecting the free gift that Jesus offered to mankind. Matthew 25:41:

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.”

The Bible speaks about Hell over 10 times more than Heaven. The Lord is warning us of its reality and the danger of going there.

And yes, we cannot judge and should not judge as to who is going there or not. The Lord will judge every man according to the light he has received. This does not let us off the hook however from evangelising. We in the west have the Bible and we should follow it.

I remember having a vivid dream sometime ago. I saw the lost souls being dragged into Hell by demon-like creatures. These souls were screaming in utter despair, screaming from their innermost souls, seeing a hopeless eternity. Those screams haunt me. The knowledge of many souls waking up in Hell, with no more hope should paralyse any humane person, let alone the Christian.

The Lord can only reach out through us. Are we willing to go were He sends us? In every day life and in a practical sense, what does this mean? As we have given our lives to Him we should let Him direct our lives:

– Let Him chose our friends – the Lord knows who is ready
– Let Him chose our job or promotion – the Lord knows where He wants us
– Be ready to go without recognition, let someone else take the credit.
– Be ready to be lonely.
– Be ready to walk the road of suffering (be it physical, emotional, financial…)
– Be ready to forsake the comforts of this life.

There are many just waiting for a kind word, a smile, a helping hand…

We should not view the church as a social club for Christians. We are and should be engaged in spiritual warfare for lost souls.

As we walk the road the Lord has chosen for us, we will meet the people He wants us to meet and He will open doors for us to witness and we will then have abundant life for in His perfect will there is total freedom.

Let me lend with a poem the Lord inspired me with last year

When problems assail you on all sides
Do not question what is happening
Understand this principle – apprehend it well
Your life is not your own
Let me work My way through you
It’s not about you but Me
I want your life to reach out
To the people along your pilgrimage
I need your hands and your feet
Walking in those lonely desert places
Allowing Me to embrace the lost souls
Are you willing to go for me?

Counting your ambassadorship a glorious privilege
Committing your day to divine instructions
Marching the “Via Dolorosa” for My purposes
Understanding then My compassion for them
Sharing My sufferings for those crying out
Discovering My passion for lost humanity
